The property is a Grade 1 listed Jacobean Manor just inside Wales, near Chester, and about a mile from an attractive market town.
The house consists of an oak panelled central hall, complete with family portraits, for general entertaining with a drawing-room and dining-room off it. There are four double bedrooms and four bathrooms on the first floor with a further three double bedrooms with two bathrooms on the second floor to accommodate up to a total of 14 guests.
Jacobean Manor is very much a family house providing you and your guests with a unique type of weekend, or stay, in unusual historic surroundings and complete privacy.
The house contains seven large bedrooms, all of which have their own adjoining en suite bathrooms. A feature of the top floor is the large entertainment area in the centre of the floor below the original oak roof beams. There is also a lift available to the first floor. All bedrooms are finished to a high and exacting standard. There are Italian Frette linen, duck feather pillows & duvets as well as bathroom products for your comfort. Our kitchen is located beyond the Dining Room and is fully-equipped with an oil-fired Aga and a Rangemaster electric cooker. Guests have the option of using our kitchen to prepare all their own meals, including breakfast.
The manor is approached down a tree-lined drive and is surrounded by some 100 acres of land belonging to the Estate to provide complete privacy. There are 3 acres of garden within the house's surrounding stone wall, while beyond the Llettai, there is a Victorian walled garden, also facing south, with a central lawn. Beyond that is a 17th century barn likely to be converted into a further family house in due course. The land around the house leads down to the River Alyn which is also ideal for displaying birds of prey, one of the outside activities that can be arranged here.
We can also arrange clay pigeon shooting and will provide all the equipment including pigeon traps, clays and cartridges, as well as guns, if required. This has become an increasingly popular activity for our guests.
For larger groups of up to 18 there is also a cottage within the grounds that is available for hire in conjunction with the main house. Please enquire for prices.
*Please note, locations shown on the maps are approximations only
The house sits at the end of a long private drive, just outside a market town (1 mile away), and is surrounded by its own land to ensure complete privacy. It is a 25-minute drive from Chester, 45 minutes from Liverpool (European Capital of Culture, 2008) and an hour from Manchester. The nearest railway station is Chester, from which direct trains to London (Euston) take 2¼ hours. The house is well served by Liverpool and Manchester airports. Taxis can be arranged to collect guests from railway stations or airports, as required.
North Wales has a wealth of visitor attractions, buildings of historical interest, areas of outstanding natural beauty and leisure activities within easy driving distance from the Estate.
We recommend you consider a selection of activities that we can arrange for your party within the grounds, for example:
- Massage and holistic treatments.
- Clay pigeon shooting - a number of guests may shoot. The keeper will charge a fixed fee of £250 for the morning or afternoon and will provide the cartridges and clays, at cost.
- Displays of Falconry arranged through Cheshire Farm Falconry, at approximately £70 per hour.
- Archery Events - we can arrange an archery party supplying all the equipment and targets. This will be provided and will involve a charge of approximately £300-350.
- BBQ - a 4-burner gas BBQ is available in a cottage in the house grounds. Also, there are garden seats and tables with a large parasol in the cottage, a refrigerator and cooking equipment, plates and glasses.
- Pheasant shooting in season for up to 8 guns arranged on the Estate land. This will require reasonable notice so as not to conflict with existing set shooting dates. The normal bag will be up to 100 birds.
Outside the Estate, there are a number of attractions that you may like to consider visiting within easy driving distance. These are principally in North Wales and some ideas are provided in our information provided to Discover North Wales.
In particular, we draw your attention to the Clwyd Theatre in Mold, only 3 miles away, where you can see live theatre or current film releases. Ask us to let you know what is on during your proposed visit or we can send you the theatre's current quarterly programme.
We offer complete flexibility when it comes to catering and dining arrangements. For those who do not seek the self-catered option, we can offer a range of dining options, informal or formal, depending on your requirements including:
- full English breakfast
- pre-prepared, sandwich and picnic menus
- afternoon tea
- formal private dining with our chef and waitress service for lunch and dinner
The concept of entertaining family or friends in the privacy of a larger private house has become increasingly popular. The key to your stay is the flexibility that this provides; you can do your own catering from the house's fully-equipped kitchen or order individual meals from our extensive choice of menus. Our menus are based on locally-sourced ingredients and are based on seasonally-available produce. Waitress service is available for all seasonal menus.
We can offer a series of activities and places to visit for every morning or afternoon of your stay or, alternatively there is a large-screen television located on the second floor for screening TV/Sky/DVDs. A selection of board games is also available in the drawing room. A range of daily newspapers can be provided.
We also offer a range of freshly-prepared frozen ready meals popular for lunch service, again based on local and seasonal ingredients, which can be ordered before your arrival or through the housekeeper. Picnic lunches can also be provided for any outside expeditions. We suggest that you bring your own soft or alcoholic drinks throughout your stay; we do not charge corkage on wines or spirits.
In short, we are only too happy to organise whichever combination of dining facilities you require and can provide whatever range of meals you may prefer, including breakfast.
Wedding Receptions
The house can provide accommodation for up to 14 family guests while the wedding reception in the summer can be held in a marquee, sited in the adjoining walled garden for over 100 guests. All catering and other facilities will be next to the walled garden to ensure a self-contained and private wedding reception.
We are totally flexible in terms of the organisation and selection of suppliers you might need to make this day complete, from marquees to flowers, caterers to limos - in short, we want you to be able to organise the day as you wish and we will ensure the necessary support you need.
As a price guide, we can offer the exclusive hire of the property for 2 days for a total of £5,000 - this includes accommodation up to 14 guests for 2 days and a facility fee for hiring the grounds for a marquee; any other suppliers would be arranged directly by you or your wedding planner.
Meetings & Conferences
The Estate is tailor-made to host residential meetings for up to 20 delegates. We offer a unique meeting facility geared towards smaller high-level groups who seek a private, intimate and comfortable setting to allow their delegates to be stimulated, relax and focus. We are considered one of the finest venues for small residential meetings in North Wales.
The same catering facilities are available for a daily hire of the house when luxury accommodation is not required, or a buffet lunch can be provided as required.
