Perceval House, in Sligo, is a classical Georgian mansion set in a private estate of over 1,000 acres, overlooking a 13th century lakeside castle of the Knights Templar. The family home since 1665, the present house was redesigned in 1864 and retains its old-world atmosphere, furnishings whilst enjoying the best of modern comforts.

This is not a hotel, or just a bed & breakfast, but an historic home offering unique and luxury country house accommodation. You will find on-site boating, coarse fishing, birdwatching, terraced gardens and miles of woodland walks. Within easy reach are beautiful beaches, eagles flying, archaeological sites, riding schools, trout lakes and four championship golf courses. Traditional music and dancing sessions are often held nearby.

Weekly prices: €7000
Short breaks: From €2000

There are 6 fine double rooms, all with recently revamped private bathrooms offering lots of high pressure hot water! Sit back in the Morning Room in front of an open fire, watch the sun go down on the lake shore. Relax. Join the party at the magnificently huge mahogany dining table.

The Italianate terraced gardens were laid out in 1863. If you go exploring you might find the Rose Garden and Rockery amongst the Rhodies too. There is a walled where we grow some vegetables for our kitchen - you can enjoy the results. It is beautifully sheltered with old varieties of apple trees, plums, pears and figs. We preserve most of the 600 acres of old woods and the bogs in their natural state; they are an extension of the gardens for us. There are acres of bluebells, rhododendrons, ferns, heathers or lichens and many different fungi, depending on the season.

The Lake is about 200 acres in size, 1 mile long and pear shaped, it has a limestone substrate with many springs of fresh water. There are four boats on the lake which you may use to go fishing or to visit the crannogs and promontory fort. We provide maps to show the paths, tracks, roads & many other sites of interest in the estate.

The house is ideally placed for visiting the numerous attractions in Co Sligo and centrally located for those wishing to travel a little further afield. It makes an ideal stopover between the west and north and a great base for exploring Sligo, Mayo or South Donegal.

The wealth of activities and places to see in the region ensure there is something to please all age groups and interests. We can arrange Clay Pigeon, Archery, Eagles flying and more. Or you can do very little!!!

Co Sligo is a county of extraordinary beauty and vivid contrast in its lakes and forests, mountains and rivers. The lakes of Sligo, with their still waters and wooded islands, are spectacular and form a striking contrast to the county's rugged uplands. Sligo’s scenic Atlantic coast has some well-known surfing beaches, including Strandhill, Rosses Point and Enniscrone, also popular for their golf courses. Sligo, with a heritage going back 6,000 years, is an attractive town with good bars and restaurants, theatres and art galleries.

There are miles of walks through our EU Special Area of Conservation surrounding the lake with rare wet woodlands, with many trees covered in stags horn and other lichens, honey suckle, thickets of wild raspberries or banks of red or white alpine strawberries in season. Further a field explore our ancient naturally sown Scots pine forests with bilberries, mountain ash, wood anemones & acres of blue bells and rhododendron etc. Wander through the colourful bogs looking for plants that eat flies or rub your hands through the seeds of bog myrtle for a wonderful natural scent.

Meals are thoughtfully prepared and can be described as country house style, with a modern Irish twist. Ingredients are grown on the estate, sourced locally or from specialist producers, and where possible are organic. We cater for vegetarians and dietary requirements with advance notice.

A particular favourite at breakfast is the freshly stewed rhubarb or apple with our homemade granola. Homemade breads, scones and the full Irish breakfast will be sure to set you up well for the rest of the day.

Packed lunches are available for fishing parties by prior arrangement.

We are pleased to host corporate days or similar events, which is when we can provide soup 'n' sandwiches or a full buffet lunch.

Dinner is an experience in itself. It is customary to gather in the morning room for a pre-dinner drink and an opportunity to meet the other guests. Discover what is on the menu that evening and select your wine. Guests dine together at a vast mahogany table and the atmosphere is that of a friendly house party.

Perceval House is the perfect venue for intimate groups on special or important occasions such as weddings, house parties or corporate retreats. The country house atmosphere is one that lends itself perfectly to gatherings that require privacy and special treatment. With 1,200 acres of gardens and parkland at your disposal, as well as the house itself, there is a wealth of space in which to relax, play or work. No event is too big or too small.

Hold your civil ceremony in the Drawing Room, or maybe celebrate with a blessing by the Knights Templar lakeside castle, or just make merry. We can welcome small intimate gatherings or larger parties.  The croquet lawn is also an ideal spot for a marquee so the options are limitless. The gardens are spectacular, the whole setting breathtaking.

Food is important here too, taking enormous pride in our reputation. We look for fresh local ingredients and go from there. The sheer size of the house is particularly well suited to a buffet and dance but also provides a beautiful backdrop for a sit-down. Your guests can mingle, inside or outside; it is all very flexible, relaxed and romantic.

There are just 6 guest bedrooms in the house so exclusivity is easy. Two cottages on the estate plus local hotels and B&Bs offer a flexible approach to accommodation. We would always suggest that the wedding party take the house for more than just the day. You will enjoy your stay all the more.
