This lovely Regency house was built in 1830 as a hunting lodge for Lord Carbery, and is surrounded its own 6 hectare estate on the edge of a beautiful lake. The lake is a famous beauty spot, 4km from Skibbereen, and 4km from Baltimore in West Cork, Ireland.
Carbery Lodge has a private shingle beach, and the estate is located a conservation area, noted for its marine life and outstanding natural beauty.
The house is elegantly furnished for comfortable country life. Large sofas, polished oak floors and a vine-filled conservatory, all add to the particular charm of this house. Sun pours through the French doors in to the interconnecting reception rooms that overlook the garden. Whilst unwinding in the cosy living room, guests can enjoy the spectacular views of the sea lough and the surrounding hills. Also on the ground floor is a fully-equipped kitchen, a laundry room, a games room (table tennis) and the dining room.
From the elegant hall, a lovely curved staircase leads you to the first floor where you will find 3 double bedrooms and a large bathroom. The main bedrooms look right over the sea and are beautifully decorated with material on the walls and period furniture. One of them has a four-poster bed, the other, twin beds. The third, charming bedroom looks over the gardens. On the ground floor there are two further wood panelled twin bedrooms and two bathrooms each with bath and shower.
The house is surrounded by its own gardens and estate, and these provide you with the opportunity for contemplation, reflection and pleasant walks on private pathways that meander through many beauty spots beside the lake. The rowing boat is at your disposal to row to the island where you can see the remains of an O’Driscoll castle, picnic on the beach or explore the rapids.

The crossing is 8 hours or drive to Pembroke and take the Hovercraft or the Ferry to Rosselaere (crossing is two and a half hours). Driving from Rosselare to the house will take you about 4 hours.
The house is well known as one of the most romantic spots in West Cork. This enchanting lough is Europe’s largest sea-water lake and boasts an amazing array of unusual marine life. In the middle of the lough is and island on which the O’Driscolls built a castle, the ruins of which can still be seen today. Line fishing is permitted.
