This Grade I listed C11th moated manor house has been lovingly restored by Glyn & Anne. The house is surrounded by beautiful Victorian gardens and is situated on the edge of the Surrey Hills, offering seclusion and tranquillity within easy reach of excellent local amenities.
King John's Hunt Lodge provide luxurious accommodation in a historic venue with modern day technology and home comforts.
The manor has been a dwelling for more than a 1000 years. The first mention of the house is in the Doomsday Book in 1017 where it was described as a royal hunting lodge, reputedly later King John's.
The library is comfortably furnished and well stocked with interesting books and magazines, just the place for a quiet read or a cosy evening. It overlooks the lake and the walled garden. There is a large plasma television located discreetly behind false panelling. At one end of the library is a small study equipped with a PC and board games.
The drawing room is spacious and furnished in Art Deco style with plenty of comfortable seating. There are French windows opening on to the gardens and the courtyard.
The dining room, that can seat 12, is decorated in rich, glowing colours that are reflected in the panelling reputed to come from ships of the Spanish Armada. There is a bar room with wine fridge and an area that was the chapel in the time of Charles I. The kitchen of walnut and stainless steel is well-equipped and has a large glass dining area that overlooks the courtyard with its pond and fountains.
Each bedroom has its own distinctive style and is comfortably furnished with either a 6ft double bed or twin beds, of which two can be combined with zip-and-link mattresses, plenty of wardrobe space and a seating area for relaxing.
The King John bedroom is sumptuously and traditionally decorated with a 6ft antique French bed. It has original Tudor windows looking out over a walled garden. Leading off the bedroom is a large dressing room, which could be used as an adjoining room for children, and it has its own distinctive en-suite 1970s Harrods bathroom with mirrored walls, twin basins and large bath.
The Queen Mary bedroom is light and airy and has dual aspect views over the lake and garden. It has a restful muted colour scheme of light blue and cream with distressed cream furniture and a 6ft double bed.
The Alice Keppel bedroom, decorated in neutral shades with pine furniture, has twin beds recently used in the Beatrix Potter film.
This bedroom and the Queen Mary room share a marble and chrome Art Deco bathroom with bath and separate shower.
The John Evelyn bedroom is ground floor with windows looking onto the moat and gardens and French windows opening out on to the courtyard. It is elegantly decorated in cream with cane and light walnut Art Deco furniture. The beds can be twin or combined.
The Oriental bedroom is a smaller but charming room with twin beds and antique painted furniture. There is a window looking on to the moat and a Chinese Moon window opening on to a small oriental garden. The bedrooms on the ground floor share a modern oak bathroom with bath, jet shower and sound system.
Our extensive gardens, set in our magical victorian grounds, are fully maintained and offer the perfect escape from the stresses of day to day life. The gardens are fully maintained with a large lake, a moat, specimen trees and parking for up to 10 cars.
Please note: The pool is located at the end of the owners wing and is available during daylight hours at the rate of £115 per 2 hours use. This can be split into 2 one hour swims.

We recently had the pleasure of spending a weekend at this amazing property - it was perfect! We were 10 friends that decided to go somewhere special and our choice could not have been better.
We loved the gardens, the moat, and every inch of the fabulous house. The kitchen and dining room is well equipped and perfect for entertaining.
The property manager provided superb customer service - every question answered and all our needs catered for.
I would recommend this very reasonably priced property as a fantastic getaway for anyone, and I cant wait to go there myself again.

A wonderful time was had by our group of 11 university friends for a combined New Year & 30th birthday party.
Planning the trip was made easy by Nicho, who was very accomodating and able to arrange for receipt of grocery deliveries and a clay pigeon shooting trip prior to arrival.
We knew the moment we came up the drive and saw the the personal welcome sign that it was going to be a special weekend - we certainly weren't disappointed.
The house is absolutely stunning (photos can't really capture the 'wow' factor), with plenty of space for a large group to enjoy spending time together, and also to find a quiet corner and take time out when necessary. The WiFi and ethernet were put to the test by some guests who had to do a little work during the stay and performed well. The kitchen was spacious and equipped to a far higher standard than many other large holiday properties - catering for a large group was no problem, and the dining room provided a suitably spectacular backdrop for the efforts of the various chefs.
The weather was very cold indeed when we were there but the house was heated quite comfortably. Someone more used to modern buildings might find it a little nippy in the coldest weather, but that's to be expected in a 'mature' property! In any case, there are fan heaters in some rooms to provide a boost if needed.
The grounds are lovely, and there are several pretty villages nearby - the Seahorse pub in Shalford proved to be just within walking distance and had a decent range of beer on tap.
I could go on & on - beautiful area, gorgeous historic property, superbly equipped and very well managed.

Nicho, the manager, is very pleasant, readily available and helpful with preparation for the visit such as offering information and receiving grocery deliveries. On arrival we were greeted with a welcome sign which was a nice touch. The house more than met expectations, beautiful. We hadn't realised it was semi-detached which was not a problem. The decor was charming and the house very spacious, sufficiently so for large parties to have their own space as and when required. Real fires would have been nice, and we did find the upstairs very cold on arrival - it was snowy outside and possibly the house had been empty the week before our arrival. It warmed up towards the end of our stay. The grounds and country walks were lovely. The pool access due to snow wasn't the easiest as the ground was slippery and it was a bit of a walk - once in it was very much enjoyed. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, crockery and cutlery and the glass extension a lovely place to eat. The washer/dryer not the best, a separate tumble dryer would be beneficial. All-in-all a lovely stay enjoyed by all.

We were a group of 12 who spent a most fantastic weekend (Friday to Sunday in Novemember 2010) in this most amazing property with a moat and its wonderful history. The bedrooms are very beautifully made up, the kitchen is huge and well equipped with everything provided included milk, coffee etc, and the other living spaces are just gorgeous. The whole property was spotlessly clean. We had a dinner for 14 on the Saturday, using one of the Manor's recommended caterers, which was superb.
We meant to take walks into the nearest village but never made it there. All weekend was spent in the house, apart for a walk around the grounds.
Our welcome and service by the 'caretakers' were very friendly and we received plenty of information beforehand with a quick tour and history of the house on arrival.
Free treats are offered and we managed to use them all except we never got to one of the treats which was use of the swimming pool as we stayed to enjoy the comfortable feel and cosiness of the house with our friends. All in all, we had a wonderful weekend. We will definitely recommend this property to friends and others.

The occasion was a 60th birthday surprise for my wife, who had no idea that she would be going to the lodge, nor that her family would be there. GTM is a superb place to have picked, and Nicho, the manager, played along with the subterfuge as he welcomed the two of us and took us on a tour of the rooms, leading to the dining room where the family had gathered. The surprise was well worth the planning.
The weather was mixed, but there wasn’t any problem with cold as the manor is heated.
The rooms and facilities for 14 of use were excellent, with lovely furniture and fittings, and plenty of space for everyone. The large glass breakfast room was ideal for lazy mornings as people got up at random times; the library is a peaceful place to read (unless you preferred to watch the large flat screen TV, hidden away when not needed); the recreation room in its modern, light style, furnished with art-deco pieces; and the wood-panelled dining room that was used for a celebration dinner, prepared and served by an outside catering company that Nicho suggested.
The bedrooms are large, well decorated and furnished, with on-suite bathrooms, and since there were a lot of us we made use of the extra rooms adjacent to the swimming pool. The latter is one of the few pools that I’ve come across that has a proper deep end, and was kept at 28 degrees.
If you need to keep in touch via the web, there’s an annex to the library with a computer, printer and fax facility.
Outside there’s a large pond/lake and grounds to walk in, access to the downs for longer walks, and we also made use of a clay-pigeon shoot, arranged through Nicho.
