Rich in history, originally built in 1560 and subsequently partially destroyed in 1640 by the Duke of Argyll, the Fortalice has been painstakingly and sympathetically rebuilt and renovated to modern comforts by its current owner. Set over five floors there are 6 bedrooms sleeping 12 comfortably boasting luxurious comfort without compromising on its original character.
The Great Hall dominated by the wonderful vast log fire and exquisite hand painted ceiling is perfect for a celebratory dinner, business venue or an intimate wedding, which is complimented by the small and unique chapel on the ground floor. All who come to here learn to use the castle as their own and greatly enjoy the warmth of both its own unique charm and the magnificent outdoors that surround it.
This Castle in Glen Isla is exquisitely positioned and set against a stunning backdrop of rugged Perthshire countryside. Perfect as a sumptuous bolt hole for total relaxation or alternatively, for those wishing to participate in all the area has to offer.
Weekly prices: £3950 year round (Christmas & New Year £4200)
Short break: £2950.
Lower ground floor: Kitchen, breakfast room, chapel and loo.
Upper ground floor: The Great Hall and Roberts Room with four poster bed.
First floor: The Lairds Room with en-suite bathroom and four poster bed.
Second floor: Sebastian's room with four poster bed.
Third floor: Julian's room with en-suite bathroom, Katharine's room, family bathroom (Both are doubles that can be converted in to twin bedrooms).
Top floor: Samantha's Room (a double that can be converted in to a twin).
The castle has been rebuilt and refurbished to offer harmony between the 16th Century and modern 21st Century style living. The kitchen is very well equipped and includes a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a huge range. The breakfast room is ideal for the first meal of the day or for intimate suppers and the crockery with its tartan designs recalls the Highlands. The tiny chapel on the ground floor is exquisite and gives the castle its heart.
The Great Hall is magnificent with a beamed painted ceiling. The roaring log fire and comfy sofas make it the ideal place to totally relax surrounded by fascinating memorabilia, family photos and books. The views from all the windows are breathtaking.
Up the spiral stairs, the bedrooms are all individually furnished, each one having its own style. There are four posters, tartan rugs, cashmere throws, heating, electric blankets and decanters of whisky. The family bathroom is huge. Two bedrooms have en suite facilities and each of my family thought their bedroom was the best! They are all lovely and very comfortable.

Service
There is a chapel on site that can be used for a service. We suggest contacting the Humanist Society as they do not require a licence and the couple can create a unique and personal service whilst able to use the chapel. The Humanist Society of Scotland has celebrants who are authorised to conduct legal marriages, making Scotland one of only three countries in the world (including Norway and the USA) where Humanist marriage ceremonies have full legal status.
